ReSound Sensia
The ReSound Sensia is a rechargeable hearing aid that automatically focuses on the voice you are facing in noisy places.
The ReSound Sensia is a premium hearing aid designed to help you hear the person you are actually talking to, not just the loudest voice in the room. It does this automatically, so you can focus on the conversation instead of adjusting settings. Sensia comes in a very small rechargeable style that sits behind the ear with a tiny speaker in the ear canal, as well as custom styles that fit inside the ear. We fit the ReSound Sensia at Citrus Hearing Clinic in Clermont.
Hearing the Voice You Want to Hear
Many of today's AI hearing aids are very good at pulling speech out of background noise. The challenge is that they cannot read your mind. In a busy restaurant, they may lift the voice of someone two tables away, or mistake background music for the sound you want to hear. Sensia takes a different approach by using a natural cue: people tend to look at the person they want to hear. When the hearing aids detect a conversation in front of you in a noisy setting, they focus on the voice you are facing while quieting the competing sounds around it.
Sensia also keeps some awareness of the sounds around and behind you, so you still have a natural sense of where sounds are coming from. It builds on ReSound's previous model, the Vivia, but the biggest change is that its strongest noise-handling features now switch on by themselves.
Key Features of the ReSound Sensia
These are the features that tend to matter most if conversations in noisy places are your biggest challenge.
- Focuses on the Person You Are Facing: Four microphones across both hearing aids work together to favor speech coming from in front of you, so the voice you are looking toward comes through more clearly.
- Hands-Free Help in Noise: On the top technology level, Sensia senses when background noise is making conversation hard and turns on its strongest speech-in-noise processing by itself. It waits to confirm you are really in a difficult situation first, which avoids distracting jumps in sound.
- The Right Kind of Noise Reduction: When people are talking, Sensia uses its AI to separate voices from noise. When the noise is just a fan or vacuum cleaner, it switches to a simpler method better suited to that kind of sound.
- All-Day Rechargeable Battery: The rechargeable models are rated for at least 24 hours of use, and up to about 30 hours depending on how you use them, with a new smaller portable charger available.
- Auracast and Cochlear Implant Pairing: Sensia works with Auracast now, a newer technology that sends sound from TVs, theaters, and public venues straight to your hearing aids. A bimodal version also pairs with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors for people who wear an implant on one ear.
Is the ReSound Sensia Right for You?
Sensia tends to suit people who want strong help in restaurants and gatherings without having to think about their hearing aids. It is worth knowing a few trade-offs. The strongest focus works best when you face the person you want to hear, and the hearing aids may take about a minute to confirm a noisy situation before applying their most powerful processing. Sensia also prioritizes speech, so if you want to focus on live music, you would switch to a dedicated music program.
Features also vary by technology level and style. The fully automatic system is part of the top level in the small rechargeable style. The next level down includes the same AI processing but you turn it on manually through a separate program, and the custom in-ear models do not include the AI noise processing. During your appointment, we will help you weigh which level and style fit your hearing, lifestyle, and budget. Our hearing aid fitting at Citrus Hearing Clinic also includes Real Ear Measurement, a check of the sound actually reaching your eardrum, so your hearing aids are set correctly for your hearing loss.
